Wonderbook: Book of Spells hit store shelves this week, the first product to result from the Sony and Pottermore partnership. It is also the first game for Wonderbook, a new product by Sony for Playstation 3 that brings books to life in an augmented-reality experience.
In Book of Spells players can read and discover new content from J.K. Rowling on the spells in the world of Harry Potter, such as Incendio and Wingardium Leviosa. Players will have a chance to cast these spells and others with the PlayStation Move Motion Controller, which acts as your own magic wand.
Each chapter of the book includes new spells to practice and learn. Once they have mastered the spell, players will move on through the journey and onto the next chapter. New writing from J.K. Rowling will be available to unlock at the end of every chapter.
In the Wizarding World, Book of Spells is a spell book written by Miranda Goshawk over two hundred years ago. It can found in the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts library. According to the Sony website for the game, the advanced textbook will assist students on their journey to becoming an accomplished witch or wizard.
On the Insider, Pottermore explained that players have the option to link your Pottermore account with the game to personalize the experience. If you choose to link your account, you’ll belong to the house that you were Sorted into on Pottermore. You’ll also be able to use your own Ollivander wand that chose you.
In promotion with the game, Pottermore announced that some mini-activities will be available online for users to “prepare for Book of Spells“. Over the next few weeks, they will be releasing the games online. On Wednesday, November 21, users will be able to learn the “Water-Making Spell”, discover the “Fire-Making Spell” on Wednesday, November 28, and explore the Revealing Charm on Wednesday, December 5. They all look pretty exciting, and personally I can’t wait to try them out!
Wonderbook: Book of Spells is available now in the US and UK, priced at $39.99. Learn more about the Wonderbook and Book of Spells right here.
