According to Ginny Potter’s Daily Prophet report that was released by Pottermore on Sunday, The United States Quidditch Team faced Liechtenstein in the third quarter-final game of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup.
Both teams played exceptionally well considering the circumstances; Liechtenstein was coming off a three-day long match with Chad, and the USA has a historically poor record on the international Quidditch front. Regardless, the teams put their all into a 148-minute game that ended in a “daring Snitch capture” by one team’s Seeker. The winning team has spent the time after the game in rowdy celebration. In Sunday’s Evening Prophet, Ginny even reported that they stole the losing team’s mascot (the opposing team did not find this funny).
J.K. Rowling is writing the articles in the voice of her character, Daily Prophet Quidditch Correspondent Ginny Potter. They are billed as being written live from the Patagonian desert where the 2014 Quidditch World Cup is taking place.
Pottermore will update on Tuesday with the final quarter-final round game report, between Japan and Nigeria, and then the Cup will move onto the semi-finals.
