Hufflepuff House wins final Pottermore House Cup

Congratulations Badgers!

The Great Hall is draped in yellow and black today in honor of Hufflepuff House’s triumph in the final Pottermore House Cup. Helga’s house reigns over the other three, with Slytherin taking second place, Ravenclaw at third, and the Gryffindor lions roaring in at last place. This was the second time Hufflepuff House won the Cup, and with Hogwart’s most humble house at the top, it was a wonderful end to the tradition.

In celebration, Pottermore released a graphic on their Twitter, honoring six famous Hufflepuffs, including Bridget Wenlock, Newt Scamander, Pomona Sprout, Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, and of course, the House’s founder, Helga Hufflepuff.

In fact, J.K. Rowling responded to Pottermore’s tweet with the message below…

So congratulations to the ‘Puffs! And here’s to new Pottermore traditions! *cheers with Butterbeer*

Look back on all the House Cup championships, way back to when the tradition started in 2012, as Pottermore prepares to enter its next phase…

The snakes’ first place standing is a leap from the previous competition, where they placed fourth. Slytherin succeeds Ravenclaw House, which won the previous two House Cups.

The final standings:

1st Place: Slytherin  52,652,850 points

2nd Place: Hufflepuff – 50,109,456 points

3rd Place: Ravenclaw – 49,775,819 points

4th Place: Gryffindor – 49,335,378 points

In honor of Slytherin winning the Cup, Pottermore promoted a poster they created called, “Famous Slytherins Through the Ages,” for all Houses to enjoy; you can view it here. Also in the coming weeks, Pottermore is expected to release Moments from the final Harry Potter book, Deathly Hallows. Stay tuned!

Now, back to brewing and dueling! Good luck to all houses in the eighth House Cup competition…

Pottermore announces winner of Proudest House Contest

proud1Last month Pottermore News reported on Pottermore’s Proudest House Contest, in which Pottermore fans posted their displays of Hogwarts House Pride on social media over the weekend; the winner was determined by whichever House delivered the highest amount of mentions.

This week, Pottermore announced the winner of the contest and the substantial prize of 1 million house points — Slytherin! Between the four houses, each representing a Hogwarts house on Pottermore, Slytherin sent in 37% of the messages on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw each accounted for 23% of the messages, while Hufflepuff contributed 17%.

In a fair action, Pottermore rewarded both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw with 230,000 points and Hufflepuff with 170,000. However, only members of Salazar’s house received this special message:

Pottermore fans participated in the Proudest House Contest over a Celebration of Harry Potter weekend at Universal Resort in Orlando, Florida, the location of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. The celebration brought together fans and official Potter people alike, including cast and crew from the films and representatives from Pottermore and the Harry Potter Studio Tour.

Echoing our favorite author, we say, “Congratulations, serpents!” The seventh Pottermore House Cup competition is well underway; it will be a few more months until Pottermore announces the winner. So, get brewing and dueling!

Regarding the prize, Pottermore has not said anything about it yet. Predictably, it will be the first installment of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but there hasn’t been any word on the development on book five either. If any news is released about the prize for the Cup, we’ll be sure to bring it to you, so check back with Pottermore News for any updates.

Now, back to brewing and dueling! Good luck to all houses in the seventh (!!) House Cup competition…

Reminder: House Pride Week starts tomorrow

On Friday, Pottermore announced that the sixth Pottermore House Cup will be awarded on September 26.

Pottermore users have three weeks to earn as many House Points as they can until the Hogwarts house with the most points is announced on Friday, September 26.

As with tradition, House Cup celebrations will include House Pride Week, during which a day is dedicated to each house for members’ to show their house pride on social networking sites. House Pride Week will kick off Tuesday, September 16 with #GryffindorPride, followed by #RavenclawPride, #HufflepuffPride, and #SlytherinPride. The Insider is set to give more details on how the community can get involved on Tuesday.

The Insider also included some helpful tips for earning House Points:

  • Revisit the interactive Moments and make sure your discovery bar is complete – every collectible you find (excluding Galleons) adds to your points

  • Make sure you practise duelling against your own house to master casting spells before you challenge the other houses, as every duel lost means more points to the opposing house!

  • Pay careful attention to the instructions for brewing potions before you begin – if you can’t remember the instructions, don’t forget to check the potion book

  • Get your fellow housemates involved! The more of you there are earning points for your house the better, so rally the troops in the Great Hall and in your common room

Now that all the Houses have won the House Cup at least once, which do you think will take home the Cup this time? Will Slytherin be victors for a third time? Can Ravenclaw triumph again for a second consecutive win? Or will Gryffindor or Hufflepuff bring the Cup back to their Houses? Despite whichever, we wish all houses the best of luck! Happy Dueling and Brewing! 🙂

Ravenclaw House will receive early access to the final installment of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in reward for winning the fifth Pottermore House Cup, the Insider announced Friday.

As always, the House to receive early access to new chapters can explore them 24 hours before everyone else. Please note that they did not announced a release date yet for this next installment.

The Pottermore team has also created background images for Ravenclaw to celebrate their first win. You can download the background images for your laptop/desktop, smartphone or tablet at the Pottermore Insider.

Pottermore announces winner of the fifth House Cup…

phc5As planned, on Sunday Pottermore announced the winner of the fifth House Cup competition.

And the winner is… Ravenclaw! Congratulations Eagles on a hard-earned win!

Here are the final standings:

1st Place: Ravenclaw  28,048,578 points

2nd Place: Slytherin – 27,795,479 points

3rd Place: Hufflepuff – 27,350,412 points

4th Place: Gryffindor – 27,299,570 points

This is Ravenclaw House’s first win, and it was a huge imrpovement, as they received last place in the previous tournament. Slytherin House came in second place for the third time, non consecutively, and Hufflepuff received second. This is the first time Gryffindor has placed fourth, but the gap between 3rd and 4th place was the smallest.

Pottermore has transformed the previously purple Great Hall banners into a rich royal blue, in honor of Ravenclaw winning the cup, . You can see how the Great Hall looks in the picture above.

Usually, winners of the House Cup receive a prize in reward, but there has been no word yet on what that prize will be for Ravenclaw. We suspect it will be the next installment of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, or even a Quidditch game, which is possible considering all the unpredictable news about the World Cup being released from J.K. Rowling. If any news is released about the prize for the Cup, we’ll be sure to bring it to you, so check back with Pottermore News for any updates.

As always, the announcement of a House Cup winner marks the start of the next competition. Good luck to all the houses in the sixth House Cup! (Can you believe it — number six?!)

phc5banner

Today, Pottermore announced that the fifth Pottermore House Cup competition is coming soon.

On Sunday, March 30, Pottermore will be naming the winner of the fifth Pottermore House Cup, awarded to the house with the most house points.

As with tradition, celebrations for the House Cup will include House Pride Week, during which a day is dedicated to each house for members’ to show their house pride on social networking sites.

This time around, however, they are encouraging Pottermore community members to create videos on Vine, Instagram, and YouTube, showing their House Pride. According to the Insider, “the video should include and continue the following phrase: “Hi Pottermore community, I am proud to be a Hufflepuff/Slytherin/Gryffindor/Ravenclaw because…”, and use one of the following tags: #SlytherinPride, #GryffindorPride, #HufflepuffPride, or #RavenclawPride.” More information will be released about this interaction on March 14.

Will you be sending in a video? Who do you want to win the Cup? As the Insider notes, this could be Ravenclaw’s time to shine, but Hufflepuff and Gryffindor could join the likes of Slytherin and win their second Cup. Or, the snakes could prevail once again for a third win! We shall see who is crowned winner in the coming weeks…

Screenshot 2013-09-12 at 07.41.44 AMToday, Pottermore announced the winner of the fourth House Cup competition.

And the winner is… Hufflepuff! Congratulations badgers!

Here are the final standings:

The race was as close as ever, but ultimately Hufflepuff House came through at the last minute and sustained their win. Slytherin was not too far behind, Gryffindor was third, and unfortunately Ravenclaw came in last – better luck next time! This is the first time Hufflepuff House has won the Cup, and we’re sure the Badgers are very happy to bring the Cup home!

In honor of Hufflepuff winning the cup, Pottermore has transformed the previously purple Great Hall banners into a beautiful gold. You can see how the Great Hall looks in the picture above.

For winning the House Cup, Hufflepuff will be receiving early access to the first installment of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire once it is available. (Can you believe that we’re already on book four?!)
