On this page, we answer some of our fans’ frequently asked questions.
What is Pottermore?
“Pottermore is a unique online experience from J.K. Rowling, built around the Harry Potter books. Pottermore is the place for Harry Potter fans to share and participate in the stories, showcase their own Potter-related creativity, and discover additional information about the world of Harry Potter from the author herself.” – From the Pottermore website
With Moments from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows now released, what will happen with Pottermore?
Pottermore confirmed they will not be adding new Moments to Deathly Hallows, but the release of the final book is not the end for J.K. Rowling’s project. Pottermore plans to relaunch in autumn 2015 with a new design focused on mobile usage.
What’s happening to Pottermore?
In autumn 2015, Pottermore plans to relaunch its site. This new site promises more content from J.K. Rowling and better accessibility across all devices. It will be a hub for all Harry Potter developments, as Pottemore hired a professional journalist to write articles relating to Harry Potter news including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as well as the stage production, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Pottermore phase two is aimed at the older readership of the books.
How will Pottermore be different?
In an effort to expand beyond the Hogwarts experience and the seven books, the new Pottermore will not have games, including dueling and potion brewing, nor Moments and collectible objects as we know it today. The artwork will still be part of the site, but will be used differently. Despite the absence of games, the site will feature other entertaining functionalities. All content will be shareable and searchable on the web. Mandatory registration will be eliminated.
Will I be able to use Pottermore on a desktop/laptop?
Yes, Pottermore will be accessible on laptops and desktops, but the new site is better for handheld devices.
Why is this happening?
As explained above, this is an effort to expand Pottermore and focus on the broader Wizarding World outside of Hogwarts. It aims to incorporate all Harry Potter developments of the past 15 years, as well as future happenings. Otherwise, Pottermore wanted to reach more people and connect with more fans, specifically loyal fans that grew up with Harry. Hence the sleek, tech-savvy design; those who grew up with Harry are mostly in their twenties now and want Potter in their pockets.
What’s the status of the Patronus test?
J.K. Rowling and Pottermore confirmed to fans various times that Pottermore confirmed to Facebook commenters that they are still working on it, even in the midst of the relaunch. It is likely unknown whether or not this functionality will play a part in the new site.
Will the new pottermore.com change the Pottermore Shop?
The Pottermore Shop will remain the exclusive place to purchase Harry Potter e-books. It will stay the same for the time being, layout and all, but eventually Pottermore is looking at a revamp for that area of the enterprise.
Why can’t I comment and post a status on Pottermore anymore?
In spring 2015, Pottermore discontinued users’ ability to upload comments, artwork and statuses on pottermore.com. The team credited this decision to privacy and security, as they found that features were no longer properly serving the community, and the postings proved difficult to monitor.
Do I need a Pottermore account to purchase items from the Pottermore Shop?
