Pottermore can be broken down into two parts – the Experience and the Shop. This page is dedicated entirely to the Pottermore Shop.
The Pottermore Shop is the exclusive home of Harry Potter merchandise. The Shop sells the Harry Potter e-books, which cannot be purchased anywhere else, and digital audiobooks of the Harry Potter books.
The e-book editions of the Harry Potter series are sold exclusively at the Pottermore Shop. Whenever you search on Amazon or other online shops for the Harry Potter e-books, you are directed to the Pottermore Shop.
J.K. Rowling has said that the she knew the demand for the e-books was there, but she wanted to bring it all back to reading, and not just buying the e-books from e-stores like Amazon or Barnes and Noble Online. With this in mind, Pottermore.com was created and is focused on the reading experience.
The Pottermore Shop also offers digital audiobooks of the Harry Potter series. These have been around for some time via iTunes, etc., but they are now also available from the Shop.
Products with Sony
Through the Pottermore Partnership, Pottermore collaborated with Sony on two games for Sony’s Wonderbook, Book of Spells and Book of Potions, which brought to life two books featured in Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling provided additional information that feature in the games as well, including completely new characters and stories. Though the Sony-Pottermore partnership has ended, these games are still available through Sony and at Amazon, BestBuy, etc.
Pottermore also partnered with Sony on the now defunct Pottermore for PlayStation Home, which allowed PlayStation 3 users to enter the world of Harry Potter in a unique 3D environment. Using an avatar, users were able to explore different locations within the wizarding world, including Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, play games like Wizard Duel and Book Herding, and much more.
Because of comments made by some Pottermore executives, we suspect that the Pottermore Shop will be offering more products in the near future. At a conference in December 2012, former Pottermore CEO Charlie Redmayne said they were “soon to launch a collection of apps, a channel on YouTube, and inflight entertainment…” As of April 2014, it is understood that these technologies are still in development.
