Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has begun principal production at Leavesden Studios, Warner Bros. announced today.
Though the film starts out in New York City, production kicked off in England at the same studio where the Harry Potter series was made. The movie brings together the same key people who worked on Potter, with David Yates directing and David Heyman producing. Author J.K. Rowling, who also helmed the screenplay, is overseeing production with some creative control.
Though not too much is known about the plot, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will follow magizoologist Newt Scamander as he ventures throughout the wizarding world encountering various magical creatures, the experience on which he will base his book, Fantastic Beasts. The movie will serve as a prequel of the Harry Potter story, starting out 70 years earlier than Harry, in the 1920s.
Warner Bros. also confirmed the actors who have been cast in the production. In addition to Eddie Redmayne as the lead Newt Scamander, Katherine Watson will star as Tina Goldstein, Newt’s wife; Alison Sudol as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Dan Folger as Jacob; Ezra Miller as Credence; Samantha Morton as Mary Lou; Jenn Murray as Chasity; Colin Farrell as Graves; and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty.
Fantastic Beasts will be the first in a trilogy, hitting theaters November 18, 2016.
The Pottermore Insider was updated again today to announce that they were now finished working in the studio for the audio and are currently editing the sounds. They also revealed that they were finishing off the artwork for chapter three this week, along with tweaking chapter sixteen’s artwork.
Chamber of Secrets update: Last week, we recorded audio for the Chamber of Secrets Moments. We’re really pleased with how things went and are now editing the sounds. As well as finishing off Chapter Three, The Burrow, we’re currently tweaking the artwork for Chapter Sixteen, The Chamber of Secrets.
Still, they did not announce any release date for the book. They seem to be making a lot of progress, and very quickly, if they finished audio for eighteen chapters in just one week. At this rate, I think Chamber of Secrets will be available online around late fall, which isn’t much of a wait. After all, we did wait for seven books for ten years.
A few weeks ago the Pottermore Insider’s site updates page was updated with an inquiry regarding their progress on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Then, they said the team was working on the book and that it was “looking great”. Today, they updated again with some interesting information.
Chamber of Secrets update:
This week, we’re in the sound studio recording audio for the Chamber of Secrets Moments. We’re also working on Chapter Three, The Burrow, and Chapter Seventeen, The Heir of Slytherin.
The update will be a relief for some anxious fans, as many are waiting impatiently for the next installmemt. It seems that they are working fast and diligently on the book, especially if they are already at the sound stage. It would be nice to see the book released by the end ofa summer, and it does look hopeful.
I also think it is nice that they are updating us even during the pre-release stages of the book. Hopefully they will continue with this practice until the book is released.
On a different note, Happy Memorial Day to all of our United States readers.
